Here we go! The New York Times once again is broad casting from Fantasy Land. Yes, General Motors is an icon. Yes, Alfred P. Sloan was a genius. However, post WWII, GM has been digging it’s own grave since the 1950s!

Cadillac as the standard for luxury? Maybe —- for ‘drivers’ who get behind the wheel after hobbling to their vehicle with their walker. Even in the fifties. Even in the back wards mid west /Heart Land. [All three ‘coasts’ were probably a decade ahead of the standard culture curve.]

Yes, even decades ago, Caddy was grandpa’s dream car. Even middle aged drivers were looking else where.

A vehicle for every niche? Oh, that decisive take over of Jeep for the pre SUV set. [Oops, never happened!]

Over kill on the avalanche of makes and models? Strangulation of creativity via layer after suffocating layer of so called ‘supervision‘? These short falls were served up to GM executive management FOR DECADES.

It would be good to find out how people rate current government programs, and which ones they would support eliminating.

Toll roads are commonly run by governments, so having government own the roads does not make them free. Many who support good public schools favor eliminating the federal role, and abolishing the Department of Education.

As for Social Security, many have paid into it for years, and could not afford to pay taxes and save other money for retirement, so they are afraid when people talk about tinkering with it. A very real dependence on government makes people afraid, and all the propaganda from government employees unions won’t change that to enthusiastic approval of government.

of course, most people will say they want a smaller government with less services. but it would be better to ask specifics, which services will they give up. no Transportation Departments? Toll roads?
No Education Departments? Private Schools?

The NDP is a Neo-Nazi Party that would be banned except that the German police made procedural errors. Though they are anti-Israel and the Arab & Turkish Gastarbeiter also are anti-Israel, the NDP is viciously against the immigrants from the Middle Eastern countries.

The main leftist Party is The Left Party – successor to the Party of Democratic Socialism. In the 1990s the PDS did make an appeal to neo-Nazi voters, using former Wehrmach Generals who had become part of the East German regime before unification. The PDS is critical of Israel, but the Greens, the Social Democrats and the center-right Parties in Germany are all very supportive of Israel.
